Falcons to sign CB A.J. Terrell to 4-year, $81M extension

The Falcons have been beefing up their defense, and their latest move is to lock down standout cornerback A.J. Terrell. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Atlanta has signed Terrell to a four-year, $81 million contract extension that includes a massive $65.8 million guaranteed. That’s the largest guarantee ever given to an NFL cornerback, and Terrell’s $20.25M average salary makes him the second-highest paid cornerback ever.

Over the last week or so, the Falcons have also traded for linebacker Matthew Judon and signed free agent safety Justin Simmons.

  • Bryce Young, Panthers will play in preseason finale.

The Panthers will face the Bills on Saturday.

  • Panthers, Seahawks work out a trade

Jackson, 27, is entering his fourth NFL season. He has played 17 games in each of the past two seasons with 1 career interception and 19 pass deflections. Barrett was selected in the seventh round (240th overall) in the 2024 NFL draft out of Michigan.

  • Commanders trade WR Jahan Dotson to Eagles for picks

The Commanders have made a rare in-division trade. They’ve traded wide receiver Jahan Dotson, a 2022 first-round pick, to the Eagles. Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick are headed to Philly, while Washington receives a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 draft.

Washington selected Dotson with the 16th overall pick in the 2022 draft, but he has yet to deliver on the promise of that draft position. Now he’s getting a fresh start with the Eagles, who want to see what he can do without the expectations of a first-round pick on his head.

  • Will Haason Reddick report to Jets? Not even Robert Saleh knows

He’s been the favorite for the starting job for months and seems to have head coach Mike Tomlin’s backing. Wilson went 8-of-10 for 47 yards in the Steelers’ loss to the Bills in preseason Week 2, and neither he nor Fields have had much success leading Pittsburgh’s offense this month.

  • Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs ‘trending’ to play Week 1

Jahmyr Gibbs is on pace to play in the Detroit Lions’ season opener.

Gibbs, who left practice earlier this month with a hamstring injury, is “trending the right way” to be available for their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 8. Gibbs is expected to return to practice next week, coach Dan Campbell said on Tuesday, after their final preseason game this weekend.

“He’s trending the right way,” Campbell said, via ESPN. “Wish we had more practice with him, but as far as the health of it, he is healing and he’s on schedule to be back and get his legs back under him and we’ll see where he’s at.”

Becton should be fine for the Eagles’ Week 1 game against the Packers in Brazil.

  • Commanders officially name Jayden Daniels starting QB

What was expected is now official: Jayden Daniels will be Washington’s starting quarterback.

Daniels was the No. 2 overall pick in this past April’s NFL Draft, and went 10-of-12 for 78 yards in the Commanders’ preseason loss to the Dolphins over the weekend. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner earned solid reviews in joint practices last week with Miami, and looked good in his preseason debut against the Jets on August 10 too.

  • Cowboys officially sign DE Carl Lawson

Lawson spent the past three seasons with the Jets, and is two years removed from a seven-sack campaign. Last season, he was hindered by a back injury in preseason and ultimately fell out of the Jets’ pass rush rotation.
